A Dealer-Rider’s Story: Kurt from All Mountain Cyclery and His Custom Spider

At All Mountain Cyclery, everything starts with the rider. As an official INTENSE Cycles dealer with locations in Boulder City and Las Vegas, Nevada, the shop is built around passion, knowledge, and helping people ride better—no matter where or how they roll. One of the driving forces behind that mindset is Kurt, a partner at All Mountain Cyclery and lifelong mountain biker whose journey on two wheels began long before bike shops and modern trail bikes. From observed trials to mountain biking, Kurt’s story is rooted in progression, curiosity, and a deep love for riding—values that continue to shape both the shop and his custom INTENSE Spider.

What's your bike story?
My story begins in a tiny town in NE Ohio and my Dad. He’s the toughest dude I know. Raced moto hare scrambles in the summer, snowmobiles in the winter and full time drummer in a band. Bad Ass. Anyway…as a little kid, I wanted to be like him but couldn’t get a moto so I started on bicycles. He also competed in moto trials, so I started competing in bicycle trials. I was hooked on observed trials. We traveled and did the whole “on the road” thing. Trials riding led to mountain biking and mountain biking led to passion. It’s all I really did as a kid and do as an old kid.
What’s your role at AMC?
I’m a partner of the shop.
What's the story behind the name of your shop?
Whether the cyclist is in the dirt or on the pavement, everyone is using all the mountain. All Mountain Cyclery
What keeps your passion for mountain biking alive, year after year?
If I’m speaking as a bike shop guy, my drive is based on the excitement our riders have for the sport and their thirst for bike knowledge. I love being a part of their cycling journey and seeing everyone ripping it up! Whatever help I can provide is the jam for me. At a personal level, I want to be a faster, better rider than I was yesterday.
What are your thoughts on the INTENSE Frame First program?
The FFP is a bold and progressive way to get real mountain bikers on the good stuff. It’s an awesome way to build the bike the way you want without spending money on parts you don’t need or want.
How has INTENSE Frame program changed the dialogue with the consumer in your shop?
It’s a great way to explain the difference between their current bike vs the next generation of awesomeness. We sped a little time on the frame builder website and always is an eye opener to the customer. Super cool!
What excited you the most about building your custom Spider?
I haven’t been excited about a new bike build for quite a while. The geo, travel, and look of the Spider got me all tingly. After building it up and throwing dirt at it, the bike has without a doubt made me a faster better rider. Super stable and predictable at speed. Incredible traction on those tech climbs. The bike forces you to ride with correct positioning and easily take advantage of the suspension dynamics. Speed without even trying. 🤣
What are some underrated pieces of gear or bike setup tips you think more riders should know about?
Don’t be afraid to run high rise bars. It’s not gramps anymore. And always keep your plug kit in your pocket, not your bag. Quick draw!
