INTRODUCING JOE BREEDEN

Photos by Sadie Aldridge

As the 2022 Downhill World Cup race season gets ever closer we want to introduce you to our new INTENSE Factory Racing (IFR) team riders. First up is Joe Breeden.

Joe is no stranger to INTENSE, having ridden for the UK based team for three seasons between 2017-2019. After a 10th in Lousa (Portugal) 2020, then another 10th in Les Gets (France) 2021, Joe will be looking to build on that this year. His win at the long and technical Crankworx BC Mt7 Psychosis meant he finished 2021 on a high.

Who is Joe Breeden?
A dedicated and committed 22 year old with ambitions that are often laughed at.

Where do you live?
The middle of nowhere in the hills of mid-Wales, UK.

What do you do?
Ride and race MTB’s for INTENSE Factory Racing.

What is the worst job you have ever had?
I wouldn’t say any job has been bad, only some have delivered more difficult experiences than others.

Where are your favorite places?
Summer in the Alps or at home in Wales, and off-seasons in Queenstown, New Zealand. I have wanted to make it out to California for a fair few years now, but I’m yet to make it there.

Where is your favorite place to ride?
Anywhere that’s sunny and has a chairlift.

When are you happiest?
Moments of peak performance.

What makes you angry?
Being hungry.

What makes you happy?
Bikes, cars, family, friends, playing sports, competition, achieving, human interaction… the list goes on.

What is the best piece of advice you have even been given?
To be kind, polite and treat all equally.

What are your extravagances?
Eating out and wanting fast cars.

Who do you admire?
People who have achieved peak performance in any aspect of life, whether it be relationships, sport, business or any other highly skilled job or activity.

What’s the most important thing in your life?
Racing, health and family.

What would you never throw away?
Ambition.

What is your greatest fear?
N/A.

What is your luckiest escape?
I hate to think.

What’s the first thing you do in the morning?

Not that I know of.

What’s the most important lesson you have learnt?
To always give my best and let everything else take care of itself.

If you could have dinner with three famous people (dead or alive) who would they be?
Three GOAT athletes that have managed a long, consistent and enjoyable career at the top of their sport.

Who is your favorite rider?
Greg Minnaar. Simply because of his ability to stay at the very top of the sport for so long, and to have upped his game over and over again to stay competitive with the new generation of riders. I mean winning a DH World Championship in the current era at age 40. Now that’s something I admire greatly.
